Description: A poster used during the March on Washington August 24-28, 2013. This is a modern poster that states in large letters “Protect Voting Rights.” Made by the NAACP, founded in 1909 by major historical civil rights activists, the organization still exists and works toward racial justice today. Just months before this march, in June the same year, the Supreme Court released its decision in Shelby County v. Holder that declared section 5 and section 4(b) of the VRA unconstitutional. These sections regulated the states on how they were allowed to change election rules. Following this ruling, voting access was more strict across the country and it became harder for minorities to register to vote.
